my favorite device to use might just be the iPad. I got one a couple years ago because I was curious about using Procreate, as I really wanted to try my hand at digital art. I haven’t done very much with procreate, but I use my ipad petty often, since most of the things i do on a laptop or desktop are web browse, and since almost everything on the internet can be done inside of a web browser, i dont need much else besides safari to do the things I want to do. I have a 64gb model, so I’ve been very aware of app sizes and which apps are necessary to have installed, and mail apps are not one of them since many mail services just work on safari! twitter, instagram, even my webblog is usable on a browser, thank god developers care about mobile / tablet / reactive screen sizes! I’m writing this blog using it right now! (bluetooth keyboard, but the touch screen keyboard is fine too!)
as a device, my ipad is also just more portable than my laptop, despite being not that much smaller. I could never fit my laptop into my shoulder bag, but this ipad barely slips in! of course, there are things i prefer my laptop for, such as writing code or using any sort of 3d software, but I’ve actually been interested in remote desktop solutions for ipad, so if I do need to access a more powerful computer, I could do so via an ipad, but I havent done much investigation yet.
another thing about this ipad is that it is so consistently better than any other tablet i have ever used. I have used plenty of low - medium end android tablets for games and web surfing and other things but they always feel so sluggish after consistent or even little use! this sluggishness comes from the OS not operating smoothly or fast enough for me, like opening an app takes like 3 seconds before it loads, or trying to go back to he home screen taking 5 seconds before crashing the app I was just using, its just so messy! my ipad rarely does those things, its always so quick there have been cases of the ipad’s apps just being unresponsive, but it doesnt happen often!
one thing that sucks is apple's walled garden ecosystem, which doesnt let me plug my ipad into a computer and move files around. I can store and read pdfs and other files i download from the internet, but if i want to move them into a desktop or laptop i just cant. i cant plug a wire between the two and actually transfer files, because apple is dumb. i have to resort to using a cloud storage solution, which requires the ipad to have an internet connection, and like, what if i just dont have one? im just unable to move stuff then, and its easily the worse thing about the ipad and all of apples personal devices. I heard i could transfer files to a windows pc if i install itunes, but i dont want to install software on my computers just for one feature.
but yeah, as long as apple’s updates dont suck and my ipads battery doesn’t die out, this ipads going to sit as one of my favorite devices to use.
